This dog has a sturdy body, strong jaws and large teeth. The chest is broad and deep, the legs are straight and heavy-boned, and the ribcage is well sprung and muscular. The ears are half-folded, and the eyes are medium sized, round and dark.

These dogs originated in the 19th century, and they were initially used in dog fights. They descended from Bulldogs and Terrier dogs, and were supposed to be very strong and ferocious.
